The end for half of humanity came in the year 2012. The Mayans had accurately predicted the date, the means by which most of the world would perish had been completely unexpected. The reports still pinpoint the source and cause of global devastation as the impact of a meteorite in the Antarctic, an event regarded as "Second Impact" by certain clandestine circles. A combination of dramatic climate change, global flooding, and geopolitical unrest effectively halved the human population almost overnight. Years later and a fragile era of peace is overshadowed by the arrival of mysterious extraterrestrial invaders known as "Angels". Standing as tall as skyscrapers, these mysterious invaders have focused their efforts on America (and the world's) last outpost of civilization, New Capitol, Colorado. A city forged out of what was once Norad. Citizens take refuge inside the hallowed out mountains, converted into a subterranean network of cities that shelter both humanity and the private organization NERV from the Angels. Using experimental mechas called "Evangelions" (Evas) which are piloted by teenage volunteers, NERV heads the defense against the Angels as well as their own mysterious agenda.

Much like the anime, the game will follow the lives, trials, and relationships of NERV agents, Eva pilots, candidates, and their family and friends. Familiarity with the series is helpful, but not required as details regarding the Angels and Eva models will be revealed to characters within the game.
